We enjoy having access to the internet with the use of our mobile phones because of cellular mobile networks. It is a radio network that is distributed over land areas called cells and each of the cells is served by at least one fixed-location transceiver called a cell site or base station. Also, each cell uses a different set of frequencies from nearby cells to avoid interference and provide each user with guaranteed bandwidth within each cell. When cellular networks are joined together, those cells can provide radio coverage over a wide geographic area.

    How does it work?

*Your mobile phones or smartphones work by sending and receiving low-power radio signals same as a two-way radio system, and these signals are sent to received from antennas that are attached to radio transmitters and receivers.

*These receivers are known as mobile phone-based stations that are linked to the rest of mobile and fixed phone networks and transfer the signal or call into those networks.

*Cellular phones need to have sight of the base station to allow radio signals from the phone to the base station uninterrupted.
*There are things that can obscure the line of sight and the coverage available such as hills, trees, and tall infrastructure.

    Types of Mobile Networks

    a. Macrocells - it covers wide geographic areas made up of antennas.

    b. Inbuilding cells - its coverage is inside the building like multi-story office buildings, shopping centers, etc.

    c. Small cells -it gives coverage to mobile devices or network capacity to a small geographic area.

    Advantages of Cellular mobile Network

    *Supply voice and data services

*Connects users on both fixed and cellular phones

    * Increases capacity

    *Simple way to maintain

    *Not complex in upgrading equipment

    *Eat up less power

*Used in places where cables can't be laid out

    * Features and functions in all public and private networks are very flexible

    * Distribute a large coverage area

*Mobile and fixed subscribers can automatically connect to the network once their cellular phones are turned on

    * Reduces interference from all other signals

Cellular networks make us freely move to where we want to go, yet still, get connected to a network and access the internet.
